Gringas Fund: A Heartfelt Initiative.

Kaitlin Fulmore
Driven by a deep commitment to a cause close to his heart, Joe Lammers founded the Gringas Fund, providing financial assistance to help seniors in need cover veterinary expenses.

If you love a small-town, feel-good story, you’ll want to hear about Gringa’s Fund, a compassionate project created and operated by Joe Lammers.

From the beginning of his real estate career in 2015, Joe made it his mission to give back to the community he calls home. In 2019, he began donating a minimum of 1% of his income to local initiatives, supporting organizations like Revelstoke Search and Rescue, the Revelstoke Women’s Shelter, and the Revelstoke Humane Society. Beyond financial contributions, Joe also dedicated countless hours volunteering for various causes.

Throughout his life, Joe has always had a soft spot for animals including his own beloved dog, Gringa. At the end of 2021, Gringa was diagnosed with cancer leaving Joe to face the emotional and financial challenges of treatment alone. After a year of difficult treatments, Gringa passed away, leaving Joe without his cherished companion. Shortly after Gringa’s passing, Joe received the unexpected news that his father was ill and would also require treatment, leaving his mother to navigate a new chapter in her life. During this time, he witnessed how her dog became an essential source of comfort and support, helping her cope with the emotional strain. These life altering experiences helped Joe recognize the strain pet care can place on individuals—especially seniors with limited resources.

Conversations with the local veterinary clinic revealed that many seniors in Revelstoke face heartbreaking decisions when they cannot afford care for their cherished companions. After Gringa’s passing in December 2022, Joe felt inspired to make a difference. In 2023, he launched Gringa’s Fund with a mission to subsidize vet fees for financially challenged seniors, helping them care for their pets without added financial stress.  By preserving these vital relationships, the fund offers relief and comfort to those who need it most.

Joe continues to allocate a minimum of 1% of his annual income to the fund and accepts donations into Gringas Fund.

How to Access Gringa’s Fund?  Joe partners with the Revelstoke Veterinary Clinic to identify potential recipients. If you or someone you know needs financial support for their pet, please contact the Revelstoke Veterinary Clinic for assistance.
